Baumkuchen from the Herrdegen Confectionery
Description
Baumkuchen or German layered cake from Juchheim´s is well-known in Japan. Karl Juchheim was from the Middle Rhine Valley and baked the first Baumkuchen in Japan in 1919. Baumkuchen is a popular pastry in Japan. When Japanese living in Mannheim bid farewell to someone, they go to Herrdegen to eat Baumkuchen or give them a piece as a souvenir.
