The Scottish Song: “Ae Fond Kiss“

Description

The song Ae Fond Kiss was written by the most famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns (1759-1796). An important figure in Scottish culture, he embodies characteristics that many Scottish people aspire to. A romantic, a liberal, a joker, a rebel, he fell in love with a married woman. When she left, he sent her this song. I find the words of this song to be some of the most beautiful and memorable that have ever been written on love, and they are words that have always been imprinted on my mind.

Had we never lov’d sae kindly,

Had we never lov’d sae blindly,

Never met-or never parted,

We had ne’er been broken-hearted.
